Chiel Construction actively promotes local employment, skills development, and community engagement across all our projects. Recent examples of our commitment:
-
Delivering talks at local schools to raise awareness of career opportunities within the construction industry.
-
Attending local school career fairs, where we engage directly with students to showcase the wide range of careers available in construction and the pathways into the industry.
-
Supporting apprenticeships and vocational training, including the recent successful completion of a Groundworker course by one of our apprentices.
-
Providing valuable work experience opportunities for young people. In 2026, we have already offered three Year 10 placements, giving students a hands-on insight into the construction industry and helping to inspire the next generation of construction professionals.
-
Hosting site visits for local schools, enabling students to safely view works in progress and meet with our site teams to learn more about day-to-day construction activities and career opportunities.
-
Welcoming the local BUSAG group to site to explore our environmental initiatives, including our duck house, bird boxes, and bug hotel. Following the visit, attendees were encouraged to create similar items from recyclable materials as part of their upcoming camp event, promoting sustainability and community involvement.
-
Organising a fun and educational competition with a local nursery, inviting children to help name our onsite ducks. This initiative introduced young children to the construction environment in an engaging and memorable way while strengthening ties with the local community.
-
Attending local construction networking events to strengthen relationships with contractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders. These events allow us to share best practice, support local industry collaboration, and maintain high standards across our projects.
Chiel Construction actively supports the local community and is committed to meaningful charity engagement across all our projects. Below are some recent examples of initiatives and achievements that demonstrate our continued commitment to social value, community involvement, and supporting worthwhile causes:
-
Rosie’s Rainbow Pantry Charity – We have introduced a donation box onsite to encourage contributions towards Rosie’s Rainbow Pantry charity. Team members and visitors who donate are invited to take a rainbow wristband as a symbol of their support and involvement.
-
Campus Litter Picking Initiative – At the completion of Phase 1 works, members of our project team volunteered their time to take part in a litter-picking initiative around the local campus. This activity reflects our commitment to maintaining clean, safe public spaces while demonstrating environmental responsibility and positive community engagement.
-
Chiel Construction vs UOB Football Match – We organised a collaborative football match between our project team and the client team to strengthen working relationships, encourage teamwork, and promote positive communication. Activities such as these help foster strong partnerships that contribute to successful project delivery and benefit the wider local community.
-
Macmillan Coffee Morning – We hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise awareness and funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, encouraging participation from both staff and visitors in support of a nationally recognised charity.
-
Charitable Pallet Collections – Our pallet supplier collects surplus pallets free of charge and redistributes them to other organisations for reuse, supporting sustainability, waste reduction, and the circular economy.
-
Donation of Office Equipment to Local School – Chiel Construction donated unused telephone sets from our head office to a primary school in Birmingham. The school uses the telephones within classroom play areas to encourage imaginative role-play while supporting early communication and number-learning skills.
-
Archie’s Smile Charity Challenge – Five members of the Chiel Construction team successfully completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Archie’s Smile, demonstrating our employees’ dedication to supporting charitable causes through personal challenge and fundraising.
-
Support for the 21st Scout Group – Four members of Chiel Construction volunteer their time each week to support the local Scout group as leaders and camp helpers. Their ongoing involvement helps provide valuable activities, mentoring, and life experiences for young people within the community.
