Chiel Construction successfully delivered the refurbishment of the Outpatients Department male and female WC facilities at Warwick Hospital on behalf of South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, creating modern, compliant, and patient-friendly amenities within a live healthcare environment.

Working under a Trust Standard Contract, procured via competitive tender, our team undertook a 10-week programme of refurbishment works. This included the full strip-out of existing sanitaryware, fixtures, finishes, and associated mechanical and electrical services, followed by the installation of new systems and upgraded facilities designed to improve hygiene, durability, and ease of maintenance.

The project involved the installation of new IPS units with integrated sanitaryware, upgraded plumbing, lighting, and ventilation systems, as well as new ceilings, hygienic wall finishes, and slip-resistant flooring. Additional works included firestopping to maintain compartmentation, installation of WC cubicles and partitions, full internal redecoration, and implementation of water hygiene measures including testing and certification.

As Principal Contractor, Chiel Construction carefully managed the delivery within a fully operational Outpatients Department. The works required strict control of noise, dust, and disruption, with limited working hours to avoid impact on patient services. Logistical challenges included restricted access routes, no on-site storage, and the need for just-in-time deliveries. Coordination was also required to manage unknown existing conditions and integrate new services with legacy systems while maintaining compliance with healthcare standards and regulations. 

 

The project was successfully delivered to programme, providing the hospital with upgraded, durable, and hygienic facilities that enhance the patient experience while meeting stringent healthcare requirements.
