Chiel Construction successfully delivered the comprehensive refurbishment of the Jack Martin 1 student accommodation block at the University of Warwick. The project involved upgrading a 107-bedroom residential facility, alongside shared kitchens and communal areas, to meet modern standards in advance of student occupation.

Working to the project requirements under a JCT Design & Build 2016 contract, our team completed a wide range of construction activities, including full internal refurbishments of bedrooms with new finishes and furniture, replacement of en-suite bathrooms and shared washroom facilities, and upgrades to kitchen areas. Extensive structural crack repairs were carried out internally and externally using specialist Helibar systems, alongside a complete rewire of the building including new distribution boards and mains supplies.

As Principal Contractor, Chiel Construction managed the project within a live university environment, coordinating works around ongoing operations and overcoming challenges such as restricted access, temporary service provisions, and tight programme constraints. All works were delivered in line with BIM requirements and current safety and compliance standards.

The project was completed within a 12-week programme, ensuring the accommodation was ready for the start of the academic term. The refurbished building now provides modern, durable, and high-quality living spaces that enhance the overall student experience on campus.
