Chiel Construction successfully delivered the extension and refurbishment of Weoley Castle Pre-School on behalf of Acivico and Birmingham City Council, enhancing the existing educational facility to provide improved internal spaces and external play areas.

Working under a JCT Intermediate Building Contract, procured via competitive tender, our team undertook a comprehensive programme of works over a 29-week period. This included demolition and site clearance, excavation and formation works, installation of drainage and ground floor slabs, and the construction of new structural elements to facilitate the extension.

The project also involved delivering an airtight internal environment, alongside a full internal fit-out incorporating new toilet and bathroom facilities, finishes, and associated mechanical and electrical installations. External works included improvements to the playground, providing a safer and more functional outdoor space for users.

As Principal Contractor operating under a design and build approach, Chiel Construction managed all aspects of the scheme, ensuring coordination between design development and on-site delivery. The works required careful planning to maintain safety and minimise disruption within a live educational setting.

The project was successfully completed to programme, delivering a modernised and extended pre-school facility. The completed scheme provides a high-quality, functional learning environment, supporting the needs of staff and children while enhancing the overall usability and longevity of the building.
