Chiel Construction successfully delivered the refurbishment and repurposing of redundant porter cabins at Warwick Hospital on behalf of South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, creating a dedicated maintenance and hospital bed repair facility within a live healthcare environment.

Working under a competitive tender process, our team completed the project over an 11-week programme. The works involved the full strip-out of the existing cabin interiors, including the removal of fixtures, fittings, and services, followed by a comprehensive refurbishment to transform the space into a practical and efficient working environment.

The project included complete re-wiring to current standards, alongside the installation of new fire alarm and access control systems to ensure compliance with healthcare safety and security requirements. Additional works comprised internal decoration throughout and the installation of durable flooring suitable for workshop use, providing a robust and fit-for-purpose environment for maintenance operations. As Principal Contractor, Chiel Construction carefully managed delivery within an operational hospital setting. The works required strict control of disruption, with limited space available due to the constraints of the existing porter cabin footprint. Additional challenges included coordinating access and deliveries within a restricted site, integrating new services within an older structure, and ensuring full compliance with healthcare regulations while maintaining a safe environment for both operatives and hospital users.

The project was successfully delivered on programme, providing the Trust with a modern, compliant, and functional maintenance facility that supports essential hospital operations and equipment upkeep.
